The business issue

Our client was exploring options for the development of a new dental product to compete against the current perceived industry standard for a specialised indication area.

To support the product development team, the company wanted to understand dentists’ demands on a new product in a number of feature areas that could lead dentists to switch products.

Our solution

To gain a thorough understanding of dentists’ needs and expectations, we conducted in-depth exploratory interviews in threecore markets. Product features and current unmet needs were discussed in detail and known benchmark products for each feature were identified.

Our impact

In addition to feedback for a target product profile, we uncovered a shift in attitudes to usage and product class perceptions which countered our client’s internal market hypotheses.

This enabled us to guide the client’s broader strategy, leading the team to re-think their product development programme and marketing approach.
